Okay, this No. 353-tan Whip-o-Lite shade dates to 1943, and was also available as No. 352-white. There are two reason I didn't light this one. First of course, I wanted you to see what a "Flocked" shade looked like up close, and second because it is on a outside chain hanging lamp from 1939 that I wasn't real keen on taking apart to photograph the shade!

You can see on the shade how the design was drawn, painted, then flocked. This shade is a good example of how the flocking added to the character of the design, since it has both flocked and non-flocked areas to its design. The flocking makes the design stand out, and draws attention to the design. I would also imagine that about anyone considering buying a shade such as this one, would touch the flocking before doing so. The feel of the flocking itself helped sell these shades.
